Shading
Shapes
I set up 3 view reference planes for the character I was working on, using the similar steps on the 2D sprite project.
I made a blueprint of the character after I arranged all the cubes. However, I noticed the character looked off in the standard lighting
I changed the parent materials shading mode to unlit and increased the emission value of
the lamp to make it more bright.
I used unlit mode to create an image similar to the the pixel art.
I added up-down movement to the light particles and added Rotating movement to the all blueprints to make a turntable effect.
I created a reference image for the 2D sprite block project and assigned the characters texture to the material of the plane.
I used material instances to color the cubes according to the pattern and started to place them to their place on the reference image.
After I completed the pattern I noticed my character didn't looked like made by cube blocks.
I created a cube in maya with beveled edges and changed the cube in UE using the
Reimport With New File option.
